Lower your El Paso County property taxes
The El Paso Central Appraisal District (EPCAD) values homes across El Paso, Socorro, Horizon City and the rest of the county with mass appraisal. With combined tax rates among the highest in Texas, every dollar of excess value costs El Paso owners more than in most counties. 25% of first-year savings, only if you save.
What a too-high value costs you
If your home is assessed at $260,000 but similar homes point to about $240,000, you're taxed on $20,000 too much. At a 2.60% rate that's about $520 a year. Our fee would be $130; you'd keep $390.
What gets missed in El Paso
- Picking the wrong filing route. EPCAD's online portal is email-only and doesn't let you meet an appraiser before your hearing. The other routes do.
- High combined rates. City, county, hospital, college and school taxes stack up. A small value error turns into a real bill.
- Unequal appraisal. Similar homes in your subdivision can carry lower values than yours. Texas lets you protest that directly.
- Condition. Roof wear, older systems and foundation issues aren't visible in EPCAD's records.
Insider tip: EPCAD offers several ways to file. Only the paper form and the online form/QR route allow an informal meeting with an appraiser before the ARB hearing, so the route you choose matters.

Exemptions to check
Your homestead exemption takes $140,000 off your home's value for school taxes ($200,000 if you're 65+ or disabled), and caps how much your taxable value can rise each year at 10%. Over-65 and disabled owners also get a school-tax ceiling. We check your exemptions free at sign-up.
